This tool is based on the '11 x' series art work by Stefanie Posavec, a project exploring her interest (however random) in long multiplication. By converting each digit in a multiplication calculation to a specific shape and colour, the hidden patterns found in its cascading lines of digits are revealed.
This process can be explored further using this online long multiplication visualiser. Entering numbers with different patterns of digits into the visualiser will reveal unique patterns of colourful, cascading shapes.
By populating the first field and clicking + (or pressing 'Enter'), a new value will be added to the list below.
You can delete an existing value by pressing X on the right-hand side.
You can re-order a value by dragging the '>' sign on the left-hand side.
To quickly start from scratch, simply click the 'clear' button and all the values will be deleted.
Once you're happy with your values, simply press the 'multiply' button. The graphics will be generated in the blank panel to the right. Depending on your computer and the browser you're using, the generation may take some time, please be patient.
Newly generated graphics will be scaled to fit the blank panel's width, however you can zoom in or out by using the slider (which will appear after you first multiply)
